Anticipation
We are off again, this time escaping Rochester for a chunk of winter. We leave on December 24 for Florence, Italy and will stay until January 5. Much of the time in Florence will be on a Road Scholar "New Years in Florence" art study program; some of the time will be on our own. On January 5 we will fly from Florence to Israel via Paris. Our granddaughter Leah will meet up with us at CDG airport in Paris, and we three will stay at an Air B&B in Jerusalem for a week. Leah will then go home, and we will fly to Addis Ababa on January 12, where we will begin a tour of Ethiopia with special attention to the Timkat Festival which takes place while we are there (photos from the web below). We'll fly back to Tel Aviv on January 22, and from Tel Aviv home on January 23.
Ethiopia has been on our list of places to visit for a long time, and we are very much looking forward to traveling there. Carol and Paul Goldberg will be in Morocco with family over the new year, and will then fly to Tel Aviv and travel with us to Ethiopia. Ethiopian Air has two round trips each day between Tel Aviv and Addis Ababa.

From Wikipedia:
Timkat (Amharic: ጥምቀት T’imik’et, literally "Baptism"; also spelled Timqat) is the Orthodox Tewahedo celebration of Epiphany. It is celebrated on January 19th (or 20th in a leap year), corresponding to the 10th day of Terr in the Ethiopian calendar. Timkat celebrates the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River. This festival is best known for its ritual reenactment of baptism.
If all goes well, the next post on this blog will be just after Christmas from Florence. I'll end with a couple of images of Timkat from the web, images which helped us choose to go to Ethiopia at this time.

See you in Israel :) Our family are meeting in Paris for a couple of days before joining us in Morocco for two weeks.
